Vol. 505 No. 5

Written Answers. - Commercial Drug Tests.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

47 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department has completed the investigation into allegations that children in orphanages were used in commercial drug tests during the 1960s; if so, the outcome of any report; the steps, if any, he is taking on foot of the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13977/99]

This matter relates to reports of studies concerning vaccinations administered to children in a number of orphanages in the 1960s and 1970s and about which I have already answered a a number of questions in the House over the past two years.

In those replies, I indicated that I had instituted inquiries into the reports with a view to establishing as much information as possible in relation thereto. A report on these inquiries is now at an advanced state of preparation and I hope to be in a position to report back to the House on the matter at an early date.
