Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Prisoner Leave.

Tony Gregory

Question:

224 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a person (details supplied) has requested permission to visit his father who is terminally ill; and, if so, the response to his request. [14250/99]

The person referred to by the Deputy is serving a sentence of eight years for possession of firearms/ammunition with intent and assault with intent to commit robbery. He is not due for release with remission until April 2004. He did request temporary release to visit his father who was gravely ill outside this jurisdiction. Having considered all aspects of the case I decided not to grant him temporary release at that time.
