Vol. 505 No. 7

Written Answers. - Visitation Rights.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

96 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 148 of 26 May 1999, the person is considered to be a convicted prisoner and not entitled to enter Cork prison as a visitor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14690/99]

The person referred to by the Deputy was convicted by Dungarvan District Court on 22 February 1995 and fined £300 or 14 days imprisonment and £150 or seven days imprisonment. As I stated in my previous reply, the Governor of Cork prison has confirmed to me that the warrants in question were executed at Cork prison on 27 January 1999.

With regard to the visits it is the general practice that ex-prisoners are not allowed to visit prisoners unless they are related.
