I propose to take Questions Nos. 189 and 190 together.
The allocation of grants to Cork Corporation and Cork County Council for national roads is a matter for the National Roads Authority.
The discretionary, block, grant for non-national roads paid by my Department to urban authorities may be used for road reconstruction (as distinct from road reinstatement) works and table one sets out the payments to Cork Corporation for 1995-98 and the 1999 allocation under this heading. The 1999 allocation includes an amount of £721,000 for the restoration of footpaths and carriageways.
Discretionary improvement and restoration improvement grants paid by my Department to county councils may be used for road reconstruction, as distinct from road reinstatement works and table two below sets out the payments to Cork County Council for 19951998 and the 1999 allocation under these headings.
Works carried out on foot of EU co-financed non-national road grants may also include elements of road reconstruction.
