Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Compulsory Acquisition Compensation.

Enda Kenny

Question:

188 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the com pensation, if any, allowable to individuals whose business has to close as a consequence of re-routing a national primary road; if the case of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be examined; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15943/99]

The law in relation to payment of compensation in respect of the compulsory acquisition of land for road and other public purposes, and related matters, is set out primarily in the Acquisition of Land (Assessment of Compensation) Act, 1919. The question as to whether, in any particular circumstances, compensation is to be paid, and the amount of any such payment, is a matter for the property owner concerned and the relevant local authority.
