Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

80 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if the amount of income which a dependant is allowed will be increased in view of the circumstances of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [15676/99]

Community employment is a labour market programme targeted specifically at the most disadvantaged members of the community, the long-term unemployed whose only source of income is an unemployment compensation payment or certain other means tested social welfare payments. Persons in receipt of unemployment assistance/ unemployment benefit and community employment participants with a qualified adult dependant, whose partners income/ earnings are between £60 to £90 per week, can qualify for payment of an increase for a qualified adult at a reduced rate depending on the level of income. The tapered allowances payable are as follows:

for income between £66.01 and £65.

£36.70

for income between £65.01 and £75.00

£30.20

for income between £70.01 and £75.00

£23.80

for income between £75.01 and £80.00

£17.30

for income between £80.01 and £85.00

£10.80

for income between £85.01 and £90.00

£4.30

There is no allowance for income in excess of £90.00.

The effective rates payable for the reduced rate increase for qualified adults are a matter for the Minister of Social, Community and Family Affairs.
