Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Army Recruits.

Paul McGrath

Question:

113 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Defence the proposals, if any, he has to station Army recruits at Columb Barracks, Mullingar, County Westmeath; the number proposed; and when they will take up residency at this barracks. [15993/99]

The 1999 general service recruitment campaign was advertised in February of this year. The 4 western brigade which includes Columb Barracks was allocated 60 recruits from the current programme of recruitment. This programme is ongoing.

The allocation of recruits is a matter to be decided by the general officer commanding, 4 Western Brigade based on the operational commitment of the brigade.
