Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Beef Sales.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

48 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason the target set by An Bord Bia for increasing sales of beef by 95,000 tonnes has been increased retrospectively to 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16935/99]

At the time of presentation of the Bord Bia beef plan to the beef task force, complete returns from the Central Statistics Office were only available for 1997. The task force conclusions were therefore based on that year. The target set by the beef task force is to increase beef exports to the EU from 185,000 tonnes in 1997 to 280,000 tonnes in 2002.
