Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

260 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Defence if Army barracks in Ireland are patrolled and secured by private security firms; if so, the reason in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18168/99]

All occupied Army barracks are patrolled and secured solely by military personnel and no private secur ity firms are at present engaged at such installations. Private security firms have, however, been put in place at a number of former military barracks which have been vacated and closed, as it was considered essential to provide security to prevent wanton acts of vandalism which could affect the saleability of those properties.
