Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Genetically Modified Organisms.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

556 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if it will be necessary to increase the number of qualified and trained personnel required to monitor the situation following the introduction of the proposed moratorium on new genetically modified foods irrespective of the outcome of the public consultation process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17272/99]

The marketing of genetically modified food products falls under the remit of my colleague, the Minister for Health and Children. I will shortly be making a statement on the outcome of the public consultation process on genetically modified organisms and the environment which I initiated last year.
