Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Court Accommodation.

Michael Bell

Question:

740 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position in relation to the provision of a new courthouse for the District and Circuit Courts for Drogheda, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17344/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 361 of 13 October 1998. A feasibility study of the site has been undertaken by the architects on the project and initial plans have been prepared. These plans will form the basis of discussion/consultation with court users in line with the protocol on consultation which has been adopted recently by my Department in connection with courts development projects.

I also understand that Drogheda UDC are being consulted regarding the integration of the proposed courthouse building into the town and the enhancement of public spaces adjoining the site. I have been informed that consultations with court users will begin next week.
