Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Question:

898 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application by local residents to extend the school bus serving from Jerpoint Church to Danesrath, Knocktopher, County Kilkenny, will be investigated in view of the increased number of homes in this locality requiring the service. [18019/99]

As a rule primary and post-primary school transport routes are planned so that as far as possible, no eligible child will have to travel more than 1.5 and 3.0 miles respectively to the nearest pick-up point.

If the Deputy submits the name of the school that the pupils in question are attending to my Department's school transport section, a detailed report will be sought from Bus Éireann and he will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
