Vol. 508 No. 3

Written Answers - Special Educational Needs.

Denis Naughten

Question:

348 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in considering a request for the provision of additional resources for a dyslexic pupil to Four Roads national school in view of the fact that a request was made to his Department on 21 July 1999; when he will make a decision on this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18609/99]

My Department has no record of the request to which the Deputy refers.

The school authorities, who have been contacted in relation to this matter, have confirmed that no application for special support has been made to my Department. However, the school has been requested to provide details of the child in question to my Department so that the child's needs can be assessed and any necessary support can be put in place.
