Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Public Private Partnerships.

Ivan Yates

Question:

126 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the proposed public private partnership projects that her Department will be submitting for consideration as part of the national development plan. [19347/99]

The Government decided last year that elements of the Dublin light rail network should be one of the pilot PPP projects. I expect to bring proposals to Government shortly on how best to progress the LRT project on a PPP basis.

A review of the strategic development of suburban rail in Dublin is currently being carried out. When the main infrastructural elements identified by this study are being considered for approval their potential from a PPP perspective will also be considered.

Precise designation of additional projects or parts of projects for PPP purposes will be decided as the national development plan is implemented. The Government's objective is for the maximum usage of PPPs consistent with the principles of efficiency and best value for money.
