Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

John Perry

Question:

181 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the submission sent to his Department from Sligo Corporation regarding funding for major refurbishment of St. Edwards Terrace, Sligo; the plans, if any, he has to make additional funds available; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that there was a tragic loss of life earlier in 1999 and the residents now fear for their safety; when funds will be made available; the amount of money allocated and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19186/99]

No application for funding under the remedial works scheme in respect of this estate has been received in my Department. If such proposals are submitted, my Department will assess their eligibility for funding. In accordance with procedures for reporting fatalities at fires attended by fire brigades, the fire authority, in this case, Sligo County Council, has informed my Department of the fatality resulting from a fire at St. Edward's Terrace in January last.
