Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fire Services.

Enda Kenny

Question:

180 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the review of fire arrangements on each offshore island being carried out by his Department; if he will publish the interim position; and his final proposals in this regard. [19184/99]

Under section 10 of the Fire Services Act, 1981, the provision and organisation of a fire service in its area is a matter for each local fire authority. Reviews of the fire service arrangements with respect to inhabited off-shore islands are being separately carried out by each relevant fire authority, in consultation with my Department, and the question of a committee to undertake a review does not therefore arise. I expect to receive reports from the individual fire authorities in the near future.
