Question:

226 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a decision will be made on a land registry application by a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [19317/99]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that this dealing refers to an application under section 49, i.e. acquisition of title by virtue of long possession, of the Registration of Title Act, 1964, which was lodged on 4 December 1998. I understand that, due to their complicated nature, applications under section 49, which require detailed examination of claims for registration as owners, can take some time to process.

I am further informed that the Land Registry issued a query on this dealing to the applicant's solicitor on 7 September 1999 and a reply is awaited. The query raised must be satisfactorily discharged before the matter can proceed.

Accordingly, it is not possible to estimate a completion date for the application concerned at this stage.

However, I can assure the Deputy that the Land Registry will do everything possible to expedite the resolution of this application.
