Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Deaf Studies Centre.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

235 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science when a centre for deaf studies will be established; the status of the proposal before the Higher Education Authority to establish this centre in Trinity College; if he will allocate the necessary funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19238/99]

The Higher Education Authority is at present examining the proposal from Trinity College, Dublin to establish a centre for deaf studies. I understand that the authority has arranged a series of meetings with relevant interests in this field, commencing next week with the Irish Deaf Society and that, following these consultations, a report will be furnished to my Department.
