Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Bernard Allen

Question:

258 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason St. Patrick's infants' national school has not been granted a concessionary post in view of the fact that it is designated as disadvantaged. [19272/99]

I understand that the Deputy's question relates to St. Patrick's boys' national school, Ballyhooley Road, Cork. The school in question is one of a number of national schools which were designated disadvantaged in 1994. As a result of their designation, the schools in question secured an entitlement to staffing allocations which enabled them to operate at a maximum class size of 29:1. The schools also qualified for supplementary capitation funding at a rate of £30 per pupil. The schools in question were not allocated concessionary teacher posts as part of their support package.
