Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

David Stanton

Question:

110 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received the results of the feasibility study on the re-opening of the Cork, Midleton and Youghal rail link; if so, the conclusion and recommendations in the study; and her views in this regard. [19285/99]

CIÉ has commissioned consultants to carry out detailed costing and feasibility work for a number of suburban rail proposals in Dublin and Cork. Work on the Cork element of the study will be completed early next year. The Cork study will examine the potential for reopening the Cork to Midleton rail link.

As I said previously, any consideration of the re-opening of the Midleton to Youghal railway line would have to await the results of the analysis of the Cork to Midleton section.
