Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

62 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the recently expressed Garda optimism that charges will be brought in the case of the murder of Ms Sophie Toscan du Plantier; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19651/99]

As the House will be aware, it is not the practice for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to make statements to the House about the progress of individual Garda investigations except in singular instances where the circumstances of an investigation are so exceptional that such a course of action is deemed to be warranted.

All I propose to say in this case is that I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the investigation is continuing and, as I hope the Deputy will appreciate, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further.
