Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

112 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to remodel and enlarge the Garda station in Bantry; and, if so, when work will commence. [19567/99]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that Bantry is included in the Garda building programme as requiring a new Garda station. A number of options for the provision of same are being considered, including the acquisition of a new site, and the Office of Public Works is currently examining matters in this regard.

As progress in relation to these options is dependent upon overall priorities and the availability of resources, it is not possible to provide a precise timeframe for the commencement of works. In the interim, however, I understand that the Office of Public Works is attempting to secure some additional accommodation to alleviate existing accommodation problems.
