Vol. 509 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

59 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department is in negotiation with the Department of Defence to secure an alternative site for a school at the Curragh, County Kildare; if so, the objection, if any, he has to the site already chosen for the school; if he has consulted with the principal and the board of management on the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18686/99]

My Department has been informed by the Department of Defence that it is not in a position to provide access through the Curragh to the site identified by the school authorities. The school authorities have been informed of this and requested to examine the possibility of alternative access to the site.

In the meantime, my Department is examining other options for the provision of permanent accommodation for Gaelscoil Cill Dara. These include the possibility of amalgamating existing schools in the Curragh Camp, which would free up accommodation for the Gaelscoil.

An official from my Department has been in contact with the school principal regarding the matter.
