Vol. 509 No. 4

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

259 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will extend the tax incentive for an integrated area plan to cover an old church spire (details supplied) in Dublin 8; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20354/99]

Under the Urban Renewal Act, 1998, it is a matter for the relevant local authority to recommend sub-areas for designation within the area covered by the integrated area plan. In the case of the Liberties-Coombe plan, the old church spire in question was not included in the areas recommended by Dublin Corporation.

Therefore, it was not open to me to designate this site for tax incentives on this occasion. There are no proposals to designate further areas under the urban renewal scheme which runs until the 31 December 2002.
