Vol. 509 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Joe Higgins

Question:

296 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 310 of 5 October 1999, he will re-examine the 86 per cent reduction in pension payments to ordinary workers in view of the letter dated 18 August 1998; and, if not, if he will seek a report from the Irish Pensions Trust Limited. if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 310 of 5 October 1999, he will re-examine the 86 per cent reduction in pension payments to ordinary workers in view of the letter dated 18 August 1998; and, if not, if he will seek a report from the Irish Pensions Trust Limited. [20685/99]

I refer the Deputy to my replies of 5 October 1999 and 24 June 1999 to his earlier questions on this matter.

As set out in those replies, I am satisfied that the Department has dealt with the correspondence on this matter in so far as is possible.

In my reply of 5 October last, I outlined the position regarding the revaluation of deferred benefits for members of occupational pension schemes who left such schemes prior to 1991 and I see no basis for requesting the Pensions Board – who would be the appropriate body – to seek a report as proposed by the Deputy.
