Liam Aylward

Question:

105 Mr. Aylward asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will review an application by a person (details supplied) in County Waterford for an extension of a work permit. [20396/99]

A first time application for a work permit, not an extension as stated in the question was received by my Department on 9 July and was refused on 14 July 1999.

I understand that the person concerned is currently in this country on a working holiday visa.

Such visas – which permit employment for limited periods of up to three months at a time – are issued on a reciprocal basis by the Irish and Australian authorities to permit one year working holiday visits. Accordingly, applications by employers for work permits cannot be considered in respect of such persons.
