Vol. 509 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Donal Carey

Question:

439 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a request for funding for a sewerage development in Feakle, County Clare; if so, when he first received the application; and the number of decisions to be taken within his Department before this project can proceed. [21663/99]

Proposals for a sewerage scheme in Feakle were received in my Department in the 1960s. I have approved the scheme for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative and I have also approved Clare County Council's proposal to update the preliminary report to take account of developments in the meantime.

The updated preliminary report must be submitted by the council and approved by the Department before the council can proceed to the next stage and prepare contract documents for the scheme. Following preparation of contract documents by the council and their approval in due course by the Department, the council must then invite tenders and submit a tender report and recommendation to the Department before the Department can finally approve funding for the scheme to commence.

Question:

440 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a request for funding for a sewerage development in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare; if so, when he first received the application; and the number of decisions to be taken within his Department before this project can proceed. [21664/99]

Lisdoonvarna sewerage scheme is included in my Department's 1999 water services investment programme to start construction. Contract documents for the civil works element of the scheme were received in the Department last May and were approved in July. I also recently approved the contract documents for the mechanical and electrical works which were submitted in August. A decision on the provision of funding to allow the scheme to start construction will be made on receipt of the local authority's tender reports and recommendations.

Question:

441 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a request for funding for a sewerage development in Kilkishan, County Clare; if so, when he first received the application; and the number of decisions to be taken within his Department before this project can proceed. [21665/99]

This scheme is included in my Department's 1999 water services investment programme to start construction. Clare County Council's tender reports and recommendations for the civil works and sludge dewatering equipment contracts, which were received in the Department in August, are currently under examination. A tender report on the mechanical and electrical contract, which is the other main element of the scheme, is awaited from the council.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

442 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the allocation paid to Donegal County Council for group water schemes for each of the years from 1997 to date; and the plans, if any, he has to increase the allocation to meet the demand for these schemes in the county. [21678/99]

Since 1997, a total of £2,001,053, including European Regional Development Fund co-financing of £437,130, has been paid to Donegal County Council by my Department for group water scheme development under the devolved rural water programme as follows:

Year

Payment

1997

£513,600

1998

£727,453

1999 (to date)

£760,000

During the same period a further £1,073,768 has been paid directly by the Department to group schemes which commenced construction prior to the introduction of the devolution arrangements. Future allocations for group scheme development will be considered in the context of the overall budgetary provision for water services.

Nora Owen

Question:

444 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will give approval to Fingal County Council to proceed with a new sewage treatment facility in Skerries, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21705/99]

Skerries/Balbriggan sewerage scheme is included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme to advance through planning. I understand that Fingal County Council is currently examining the revised preliminary report for the scheme.
