Question:

85 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has issued any directives or instructions in regard to rail safety in view of recent tragic events in the UK; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22006/99]

The chief railway inspecting officer has paid close attention to this tragic event. He concluded that it did not give rise to the need for any immediate intervention on his part. The chief railway inspecting officer maintains close links with the UK railway safety authorities and will be following the progress of their investigations closely.
