72 Mr. Allen asked the Taoiseach the number of non-Civil Service appointments made to his office; the names of the appointees; and the expenses paid. [22781/99]

There are 29 non-Civil Service appointments in my Department at present. The officers concerned are paid expenses in accordance with the normal rules governing Civil Service expenses.

I am providing for the Deputy's information a list of non-Civil Service staff and their respective travel and entertainment expenses, which my Department recently released under the Freedom of Information Act.

In addition to the persons covered by the FOI request (also attached), the following persons are or were serving in non-Civil Service positions: Celia Larkin (formerly constituency office)*; Cyprian Brady (constituency office)*; Seán Nolan (constituency office)*; Grainne Carruth (constituency office); Kay O'Hanlon (constituency office); Debbie Millar (constituency office); Rosina Doherty (constituency office); Robert Holland (Chief Whip's office); Barbara Jones (special adviser)*; Máiréad Mullaney (librarian); Suzanne McKeon (cataloguer); Nicola Carey (temporary assistant, Millennium Office); Frank Worley, usher*.

*Although serving in non-Civil Service positions, these officers are civil servants.

Of the above-named, the following have been paid expenses for the period 1 July 1998 to 1 July 1999: Celia Larkin: £ 1,296.86; Cyprian Brady: £ 2,489.38; Máiréad Mullaney: £ 347.59.

Ms Katharina Bulbulia's expenses are paid by the Department of the Taoiseach. Dr. Roche was appointed on 1 July 1997. Ms Dardis and Ms Talbot were appointed on 27 June 1997.
