Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

262 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children the funds, if any, he has available for the Western Health Board to erect a health centre at Roundstone, Connemara, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23378/99]

The provision of health centres in the Galway area is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. Financial support, from my Department for such projects, is given on the basis of the available resources, the competing demands on those resources and the priority the relevant health board attaches to the project in question.

This year I have made a total of £1,089,000 available to the Western Health Board for priorities on its health centre development plan. Unfortunately, Roundstone was not high enough on the priority list to be considered this year. The Roundstone project will be considered for funding again next year in the context of the Western Health Board's priorities and in the light of available funding.
