Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Delayed Correspondence.

Dick Spring

Question:

270 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the registrar of the General Register Office has failed to acknowledge and respond to correspondence in relation to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Laois. [23508/99]

The administration of the Births and Deaths Registration Acts is statutorily a matter for An tÁrd Chláraitheoir (the Registrar General). I understand that a comprehensive reply has now been issued in relation to the matter raised by the Deputy. The failure to acknowledge the correspondence was due to an oversight on the part of his office and is regretted. Unfortunately due to the current pressure of work in the General Register Office this matter was not attended to as quickly as An t-Árd Chláraitheoir would have expected.
