Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

314 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will instruct and provide the necessary funds to the local authorities to facilitate a proper and integrated plan to alleviate flooding on roads with particular reference to the needs to meet the modern safety requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23656/99]

Adequate drainage of road surfaces and protection of roads against flooding is a fundamental requirement of road design, improvement and maintenance. This requirement is appropriately addressed through the improvement and maintenance works undertaken by local authorities under the national and non-national roads programme, and further special arrangements are not envisaged.
