125 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the position in relation to the proposal to reopen the Navan to Dublin rail line; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23174/99]
I announced last March that the Government had agreed that detailed costing and feasibility work should be carried out on a range of suburban rail proposals including the link to Navan. I am pleased to confirm that CIE subsequently engaged consultants, Ove Arup, to carry out a strategic review of the suburban rail network. One of the options being evaluated for the future development of the suburban rail network is a rail link to Navan. I expect to receive that report at the end of the year.
The recommendations of the consultants' review will feed into the DTI strategy update. A significant contingency provision has been made in the national development plan for the implementation of the recommendations of this strategic study.
