Vol. 511 No. 1

Written Answers. - Voluntary Organisations.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

106 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to an application from Carmichael Centre, Dublin 11, for care funding to allow it continue to provide essential support to more than 100 voluntary organisations; if he will give positive consideration to the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23853/99]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Groups Limited which is based at North Brunswick Street, Dublin 7. The Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Groups Limited acts as an umbrella body for a number of diverse voluntary organisations which have their offices in the building. The building is owned and maintained by the Eastern Health Board and is given over on licence and free of charge by the board to the Carmichael Centre. I understand that the Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Groups Limited levies a charge on the various voluntary groups for their use of the building. These voluntary groups, in turn, make applications for funding to a wide range of statutory bodies, including the Eastern Health Board. I am not aware of an application for funding from the Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Groups Limited.
