Vol. 511 No. 2

Written Answers. - Arts Plan.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

24 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the steps, if any, she will take to ensure an investment programme in cultural infrastructure and to strengthen arts in the regions in view of the commitment contained in the review of An Action Programme for the Millennium; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23691/99]

Under the National Development Plan 2000-06 published on Monday last the Government is committed to facilitating the further development of the State's arts and culture infrastructure. I envisage that the following elements will form part of the new programme provision for new regional/city/county projects: redevelopment of existing cultural infrastructure facilities; and support for community based projects. I would hope to formally launch the programme, including the criteria that will have to be met to receive grant assistance, and call for applications early in the new year.
