Vol. 511 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Service Estimates.

Michael D'Arcy

Question:

30 Mr. D'Arcy asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the value of the elements which comprise the £3.95 million for cultural development in subhead C.3 in the 2000 Estimates; and the way this compares with the 1999 Estimates. [23715/99]

Of the £3.95 million which has been allocated in 2000 for cultural development, £3.6 million is in respect of capital development. This funding will finance the continued development of infrastructural projects that have already been approved for funding, including projects under the cultural development incentives scheme. The equivalent figure for 1999 is £2.9 million.

The balance of the funding in subhead C3 of my Department's Vote for 2000 is £350,000 in current funding. This will be used to finance the establishment of a music board and to provide the Government's contribution towards the cost of staging a major exhibition of Irish culture in the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C., in May 2000. The amount of current funding available under this heading in 1999 is £350,000 and relates to the Irish Government's contribution to the Kennedy Center festival.
