Vol. 511 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ordnance Survey Report.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

81 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the serious concern among members of the staff of Ordnance Survey regarding the failure of the Government to respond to the Report of the Review Body on the Future Status of the Ordnance Survey; when the report was submitted to him; the action, if any, taken as a result of the report; if he will publish the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23905/99]

There is no need for any group of staff employed in the Ordnance Survey to be concerned about the Government's response to the report of the interim board which I received in April 1998.

In response to the report, a process was begun, under which I have had the Heads of a Bill drafted embodying the measures required to give the Ordnance Survey a more commercial focus. This draft Bill has been circulated to Departments and offices and I shall put the revised Bill before the Government shortly. I therefore do not think it appropriate to publish the interim board's report at this stage.

Arrangements are being made in this connection to meet staff interests to address their concerns about possible changes in the Ordnance Survey.
