Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

John McGuinness

Question:

180 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding the flood relief scheme on the River Nore in Kilkenny city; if the plan has run into any difficulty; and, if not, if it is within its timeframe and will commence as planned. [24021/99]

The proposed flood relief scheme for Kilkenny city is progressing as planned. An advertisement was placed in the EU journal in line with EU procurement regulations to engage engineering consultants for the detailed design phase of the project. The responding submissions were received on 19 November and are being assessed at present by the Office of Public Works. It is planned to commence works on site in the latter half of 2000.

Question:

181 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance the progress, if any, on the flood relief scheme proposed for Carlow town. [24022/99]

The local authorities in Carlow have agreed the scope and extent of a flood relief scheme for Carlow town with the Office of Public Works. Details of this scheme, including the completion of the environmental impact statement and economic assessment, are now being progressed by my office with a view to bringing it to public exhibition stage in the new year.
