184 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the EU Commission will finalise guidelines for the Leader plus programme; if he will announce details of the new initiative before January 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26216/99]

Following the conclusion of consultation with member states, the EU Commission has indicated that it intends to finalise the guidelines for its new rural development initiative, Leader plus later this month. I will be in a position to announce the details of the initiative as soon as the finalised guidelines are issued.
