Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Waste Management.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

261 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of regional authorities and local authorities which have carried out feasibility studies on thermal treatment of waste; and the consultants involved in each regional and local authority area. [26117/99]

During 1998 two international consultancy groups, led by M.C. O'Sullivan and Company Limited and incorporating expertise from Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands and the UK, carried out two EU-funded feasibility studies on thermal treatment of wastes in two distinct rural regions, the north-east and the mid-west, and in the Dublin region. These studies were commissioned respectively by Meath County Council, on behalf of eight local authorities in the two rural regions concerned and Dublin Corporation on behalf of the four local authorities in the Dublin region.
