Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Paul McGrath

Question:

270 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application from Westmeath County Council for approval of the appointment of consultants to survey the route for a sewerage system to service Robinstown, Mullingar; if so, the date approval was sought; if his attention has been drawn to the possibility for industrial development in this area if these services were available; and when approval for the commencement of this study will be granted. [26256/99]

A brief for the Mullingar sewerage improvement scheme which incorporates the Robinstown area was submitted to my Department on 7 April 1999 but has not been approved.

Schemes not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme come within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 which asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment.

The priority lists are being taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the National Development Plan 2000-06. No needs assessment has been received from Westmeath County Council.
