322 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide statistical information, broken down by grade, regarding student performance at the intermediate or junior certificates examinations in relation to the subject Irish in each of the years from 1982 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Statistics in the format requested by the Deputy were not compiled for the years 1982 to 1988 inclusive. The statistical data for the years 1989 to 1991 inclusive refer to the intermediate certificate. The statistical data for the years 1992 to 1999 refer to the junior certificate:
