Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - CIE Subvention.

Ivor Callely

Question:

44 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the Exchequer subvention to CIE in 1999; the basis on which the determination is made; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25824/99]

The Exchequer subvention to CIE in 1999 is £108,884,000 and the company allocated it to the operating subsidiaries in the following manner. Iarnród Éireann, £93,950,000; Bus Átha Cliath, £9,244,000; Bus Éireann, £5,690,000.

It has been the policy for some years to increase the subvention broadly in line with inflation so as to maintain its value in real terms. The subvention for 2000 has been set at £115,181,000, an increase of 6% over the 1999 figure, which is well in excess of the rate of inflation.
