Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement of Waterford Ports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether he is prepared to investigate the possibility of improving the fishing ports of Dunmore East, Passage East, Helvick and Ardmore in County Waterford, and, if so, when.

I am prepared to consider any proposals submitted for the improvement of fishing harbours with the assistance of a State grant. The procedure is that the body in charge of the harbours furnishes an outline plan of the proposed improvements with an estimate of the cost and an indication of the sum which it is prepared to contribute. Dunmore East is in the charge of the Commissioners of Public Works and proposals for its improvement should be submitted to the Office of Public Works. Proposals for the improvement of Passage East are at present under consideration and a proposal in regard to Ardmore is the subject of correspondence with the Waterford County Council. There is no current proposal in regard to Helvick.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be in a position to state if and when he would be prepared to come to visit the area mentioned in the question?

Surely that is a separate question.

I hope to visit the district at an early date. I would be very pleased to receive the representations of the Deputy or any other Deputy in that connection.
