Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Harbours and Piers.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

81 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will renew the 50 year lease of a fishing co-op to a development company (details supplied) in Howth in order that the company's soundly based business plan may be implemented with a significant gain in jobs and income for Howth. [25822/99]

The premises at No. 6, West Pier, Howth was leased to Comhair Iascaire Éireann Teoranta, under a lease which expired on 31 October 1996. On the basis of the unsatisfactory history of the co-operative's tenancy over the years, it was decided that it would not be possible to renew the lease.

Legal steps to recover the property are being initiated and it may be offered for leasing by public tender when those proceedings have been completed. In that event, it would be open to Comhair Iascaire Éireann Teoranta and-or Fin Fayre to tender for the lease.

Michael Ring

Question:

82 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding Derby Pier, Achill, County Mayo; when funding will be allocated to this project; and the money, if any, already allocated in 1999. [25985/99]

Derby Pier, Achill, County Mayo was included in my Department's 1999 programme for small harbours. However, tenders for the carrying out of the works were only received recently, and it will not be possible to advance the project this year. The works will, therefore, be included in the fishery harbours development programme for 2000.
