Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Electricity Generation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

103 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she received any prior indication of the recent overloads in respect of electricity supply; the action, if any, taken by her in response; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [26225/99]

System alerts, almost by definition, are spontaneous and not something where prior indications arise. I refer the Deputy to the response I gave to a Dáil question in the House on 24 November 1999 in which I dealt with the question of amber alerts arising in the power situation from time to time. As I pointed out in that response, these issues are operational matters for the ESB in the normal course and are not routinely notified to my Department.
