A central methadone treatment list is maintained by the Eastern Health Board and each person in receipt of methadone as part of a treatment programme is registered on this list. At the end of November 1999, the number of people on the central methadone treatment list was 4,237. A total of 153 general practitioners and 199 pharmacies are now involved in the methadone protocol scheme.
