Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

John Perry

Question:

297 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a favourable decision will be made on the new house grant application of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo in view of the fact that all documentation has been lodged; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26640/99]

The conditions governing the new house grants scheme normally preclude payment of a grant to a person who previously purchased or built, individually or with another person a house for his-her own occupation. However, a grant may be paid to such a person whose marriage has been dissolved or annulled by court order, or who is separated under a court order or a deed of separation, and the person and any dependants are in need of housing; and the Minister is satisfied that refusal to pay a grant would cause undue hardship. Each such application is considered on its merits.

In this particular case, additional documentation which is necessary to enable this application to be further processed has been requested from the applicant and is still awaited.
