Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Conor Lenihan

Question:

350 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the criteria used by his Department in terms of allocations additional Garda personnel to a particular Garda station; and if this system depends on reported crime figures, emergency calls or other factors. [26819/99]

The Garda authorities are responsible for detailed allocation of garda personnel and resources. They have informed me that population, geographical area, crime levels, road traffic statistics, social deprivation indicators and other special policing needs are considered holistically when determining the allocation of Garda resources to a particular area.
