This voluntary youth project is operated under the aegis of the National Youth Federation. The aim of the project is to plan and deliver youth work programmes relevant to the needs of identified young people, who reside mainly in the Ballina area.

This plan has included the development of a strategy for working with young people involved in the Garda liaison service. The projects includes a referral procedure, programme design and content, intervention strategies, outreach element, methods of evaluation, individual and group approaches and programme strategies. The project has close links with the North Western Health Board on issues relating to drug awareness, as well as its involvement with FÁS and the Garda liaison scheme.

Among the activities carried out by the project in the current year was a training and accreditation programme in youth and community work for volunteers, which was run in conjunction with the Sligo Institute of Technology. In this regard 13 volunteers received certificates in 1999.
